Our environments
The term ?Markgräferland? describes a region at the upper Rhine ? its many vineyards and mellow hills reaching from the south of Freiburg i.Br. to Basel. Lörrach, Müllheim and Schopfheim are the largest towns in this region, whereas Schopfheim is the most ancient one. The south borders with the Rhine on Switzerland and the west ? again with the Rhine- on Alsace (France).
The ?Markgräferland? is especially attractive for the reason of its numerous vine yards, meadows and valleys ? presenting another wonderful blaze of colours from year to year again. Be it cherry flowers in spring or the earthy colours of autumn, you will be enchanted by the unique beauty of this landscape. There are also many cultural sites, welcoming towns and friendly villages for you to discover and enjoy.
Our region has already been well-liked by the Romans who came here to take a bath in hot springs and to sunbathe in warm sun. This is also the reason why it is called ?the Tuscany of Germany?, resembling in many points the Italian region. The ?Markgräferland? is indeed a wonderful strip of land and will always keep its reputation as a fantastic way to regain one?s inner calmness.
